Pentax has just released a new firmware for their K-5II and K-5IIs digital cameras. Version 1.03 improves the accuracy of exposure when using AA batteries and the stability for general performance.

The optimized contrast AF when using [HD PENTAX-DA 560mmF5.6ED AW] lens, present in the previous release, is also updated in 1.03.

Updating requires that you download the firmware from the links below, run the self-extracting .exe file and copy the freshly extracted file (Fwdc216b.bin for K-5II and Fwdc218b.bin for K-5IIs) to a formatted memory card.

Prepare a fully charged battery and turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button. "NOW LOADING" appears in the LCD monitor, and will change to the "PROGRAM UPDATE."

Select “YES” and hit the “OK” button. The “UPDATING” message should come up on the screen. It will remain so for about two minutes or more and it is vital you don't turn off your camera or remove the battery during this time.

When the update is complete, remove the SD card from the camera or format it by camera menu in order to delete the firmware files.

Below are the download links. Download, install and stay “updated one minute ago.”
