The present release adds new useful APIs for developers

Just now, Pebble has rolled out firmware update 2.7 targeted at its SmartWatches, which improves bluetooth reliability, resolves the 0% battery warning issue, and includes several new application programming interfaces (API) that come in handy for developers.

Specifically speaking, Pebble’s latest release adds new APIs that set the method or reason for running an app (launch_reason), or convert a time specification to a UTC timestamp (clock_to_timestamp), and fixes the “watch_info_get_color” bug that caused apps to crash.

In addition to that, version 2.7 also includes an API that checks if the timezone is set properly (clock_is_timezone_set). However, this function will return only false as timezone support isn’t implemented, yet.

Last but not least, the headline of this new firmware is also an API, namely “wakeup,” which allows developers to organize and launch applications in the foreground at a later time.

When it comes to applying the present update, the first rule to be followed is the same as with the previous Pebble SmartWatch Firmware 2.6, namely make sure you download the proper file.

In order to be clear, the producer has provided 3 different files: one for Pebble watches with Serial Numbers (SN) starting with Q, one for SNs starting with a numeral, and the last file for Pebble Steel devices.

With this in mind, download Pebble SmartWatch Firmware 2.7 or download Pebble Steel SmartWatch Firmware 2.7 and update your device’s software to the latest version. Also, constantly check our website in order to be aware when a new firmware is available.
