Here comes great news for the enthusiastic gamers running Nvidia-based machines: the 306.23 driver version is now live and available for download.

This fresh release brings a WHQL tag and promises serious performance improvement with both gaming titles and other desktop applications. You should also download and install the 306.23 WHQL drivers if you plan to fork out some money on new GTX 660 or 650 graphics cards.

Along with the plethora of Nvidia SLI and 3D Vision profiles for countless games, the current driver generation brings the next step in anti-aliasing technology, the TXAA. While the initial MSAA (Multisample Anti-Aliasing) delivered good results when it came to removing the jagged edges of in-game objects, recent development came up with the FXAA technology, offering the same outcome but with significantly less impact on performance.

However, the FXAA suffered from temporal aliasing and has now been replaced by the new TXAA technique, sampling both inside and outside the pixel, but – and here's the new thing – in conjunction with samples taken from previous frames. Hence, the “temporal” attribute of the new technology.

The AA control panel helps a lot to exclude Windows applications which don't need anti-aliasing and whose performance was impaired by the active FXAA. Read more about this hefty driver update in the individual download pages.
