14 DAY TRIAL // Nikon has just rolled out a new firmware update developed for the COOLPIX P600 and P340 digital cameras, namely version 1.2, which fixes a certain charging issue encountered with rechargeable Li-Ion batteries.
Specifically speaking, this new update resolves the problem that prevented EN-EL23 (for P600) and EN-EL12 (for P340) batteries from charging when trying to perform this task using the camera, AC adapter, and a fully discharged battery.
Besides this fix, the P340 also gets another problem resolved regarding the abnormal image colors spotted when trying to open images for processing in specific software.
However, this issue would be normally encountered when using RAW (NRW) images that were taken with a burst of continuous shooting at a setting of Continuous H.
When it comes to applying version 1.2, you should first check the currently installed firmware by going to MENU > Setup > Firmware Version, and see if it’s either newer or matching this release.
If it isn’t, then save and run the downloadable file (available for both MAC and Windows OSes), and copy the “firmware” folder from within the newly created directory onto a memory card (must be initialized using the camera).
Now make sure the battery of your COOLPIX unit is fully charged, back up all important files to avoid any data loss, insert the memory card into the camera, and power on the device. Afterwards, go to “Firmware Version” once more, and the camera will guide you through the installation.
Last but not least, after the upgrade has completed, don’t forget to remove the memory card and check the currently installed firmware once more to ensure the update process has been successful.
