NVIDIA has made available the download links for its new 1.1 firmware version targeted at its SHIELD (16GB) and SHIELD Pro (500GB) Android TV gaming consoles, which upgrades the devices OS to Android 5.1.

In addition to that, this OTA release installs Netflix (up to 4K Ultra HD resolution), allows owners to enjoy 4K content on YouTube, and implements Google Voice Search feature available by touching NVIDIA’s button on its SHIELD controller (disabled by default).

If firmware 1.1 is applied, the SHIELD will benefit from Sleep Now/Restart functions and LED brightness adjustments, as well as from the ability to move newly installed apps to SD Card automatically or view available storage of connected devices.

Moreover, the producer adds support for Dolby 7.1 and 5.1 surround sound pass-through and High-Resolution audio (up to 24-bit/192 kHz over USB or HDMI), allows its console to turn on TV and select the appropriate input source, and implements several other changes (view Release Notes below)

In terms of installation, since the process is quite difficult, you must only upgrade your Android TV console if the steps are fully known and understood completely. If you don’t know the instructions, you should carefully review How to Flash NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Recovery Image.

That being said, download NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Firmware 1.1, carefully review the installations steps, upgrade your console, and enjoy the benefits this new release brings about.
