NVIDIA has rolled out a new update targeted at its SHIELD Portable device, namely version 82, which includes Netflix HD support for up to 1080p streaming, as well as several important improvements and fixes.

This release adds a new application that allows a quick pairing between a SHIELD wireless controller and the SHIELD Portable. Moreover, you can also stream the sound to a headset that is connected to the controller.

In addition to that, a fresh SHIELD Hub app has also been added. This addition improves and replaces the existing TegraZone app, and includes a “My Media Apps” option that allows you to rapidly access entertainment applications already installed on the device.

Moreover, the GameStream feature benefits from service quality and security enhancements, as well as from new on-screen controls by long pressing the “Start” button. Also, if a router that allows manual port forwarding is available, the SHIELD will be able to make use of the “Remote GameStream” option.

Last but not least, the last modification that should be highlighted is that the new update changes the position of the Ethernet indicator to the top-right notification bar.

When it comes to updating, since the SHIELD Portable installation procedure is quite risky and requires you to be fully familiarized with the steps, it would be best to get and extract the downloadable archive and follow the instructions provided within.

That being said, download NVIDIA SHIELD Portable Gaming Console Firmware 82, apply it on your device, and enjoy the new changes that this release adds to your unit.
