NVIDIA has just announced the availability of firmware upgrade 2.2 developed for its SHIELD tablet, which brings more streamed PC games, improves battery life, charging performance, and compatibility, as well as makes other changes.

In other words, applying this update will give you the ability to play Lego Harry Potter (Years 5 to 7), PixelJunk Shooter, GRID 2, Saints Row, Alan Wake, Metro Last Light: Redux, as well as several other games that are posted weekly on #SHIELDTuesday, without having a PC.

Moreover, this version improves battery life in standby/idle modes, as well as when WiFi is enabled, and enhances charging time by including compatibility with high performance chargers.

Last but not least, NVIDIA’s team has also managed to add additional UI responsiveness and memory optimizations, fix some Graphics corruptions, and include support for SHIELD Hub 4.1 which allows users to make use of a GameStream multi-controller.

When it comes to upgrading to version 2.2, the present downloadable files are suitable for NVIDIA’s SHIELD Tablet LTE US, WiFi, and LTE RoW (Rest of World) models, and only for rooted devices.

Bear in mind that, after installing this firmware the root will be lost and you will have to re-root your tablet. Also, some users have reported a noticeable change in the RED color, which is now more of a rusted orange even when changing color correction.

As for the update process, you should save the appropriate archive, transfer it to your SHIELD tablet, boot into recovery, and follow the instructions for installing this new software.

Therefore, download NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Firmware 2.2 for your specific device model, carefully apply it on your unit, and constantly check our website for updates regarding this new version.
