The release notes for 310.90 start by announcing the security update for the NVIDIA Display Driver service (nvvsvc.exe). After the problem regarding the vulnerability of systems running nvvsvc.exe was reported, a security update was expected.

Besides the security fix, performance improvements for the GeForce GTX 690 card are also enabled. It now has up to 76% faster performance in the 3D extruded ray tracing capability in Adobe After Effects compared to GeForce GTX 480.

Other key improvements with this release are a 60% boost in ray tracing applications, such as NVIDIA iray and Chaos V-Ray (subject to the scene fitting into graphics memory) when compared to the same GTX 480 adapter, and just 1% improvement in Autodesk 3ds Max when interacting with large models.

The SLI profiles have also been updated, but only for Far Cry 3 and NBA2k13.

Additions to the 3D Vision profiles have been made for Aliens: Colonial Marines, GT Legends, LEGO: Lord of the Rings, Miasmata, Pirate101, Viking: Battle for Asgard, Warframe and Wizard101 games. From these, only GT Legends, Pirate101 and Wizard101 are rated “3D Vision ready.”

This version also includes the previous optimizations for Far Cry 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Assassin's Creed III.
