This newly-released update is provided due to firmware 1.0.4.14 OpenVPN configuration that turned up faulty

Just now, NETGEAR has provided owners of its R7000 router with a new firmware package, namely version 1.0.4.18, which comes as a result of the faulty OpenVPN configuration applied by the previous 1.0.4.14 release.

Specifically speaking, OpenVPN couldn’t connect once upgraded to NETGEAR R7000 Router Firmware 1.0.4.14.

In addition to that, the new release also adds support for remote access via NETGEAR genie app, Access Point mode detection, firmware checking and updating, traditional Chinese language, XFS file system, and VLAN/Bridge, as well as increases max port forwarding rule to 64.

Applying firmware 1.0.4.18 will resolve various Telnet problems, as well as issues regarding ReadySHARE access that doesn’t allow different settings for read/write access, while also updating DLNA decoder library to fix some playback errors.

Moreover, when blocking one or more websites with previous releases, the R7000 device would display on the admin password login screen when you have accessed that/those specific website(s). This behavior has also been corrected.

In other words, get and extract the downloadable archive, establish a connection between your router and the computer, log into R7000’s administration page, and go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade.

Before initiating the upgrade, make sure to write down all settings changed from the default values, as you may need to re-enter them manually. When done, click “Browse,” select file “R7000-V1.0.4.18_1.1.52.chk,” click “Upload,” and don’t interrupt the process in any way.

That being said, download NETGEAR R7000 Router Firmware 1.0.4.18, apply it on your wireless device, and constantly check our website to be aware when a newer version is available for your product.
