NETGEAR has improved its Nighthawk X4 Smart router once more through the newly released 1.0.0.68 firmware update, which increases USB transfer speeds when copying files from a computer and adds China, Australia, and Canada country code support.

When it comes to the supported wifi bands, this update enhances 5 GHz wireless performance at long ranges, as well as 2.4 GHz channel selection after startup when the “Auto” option is set as default.

Another aspect that you should know about is that the R7500 isn’t yet compatible with FAT16 and FAT32 file formats for Apple Time machine backup. Also, targeted routers can only support maximum backup file sizes of up to 500 GB.

However, you can still make use of Apple Time machine backup, but only for formats such as NTFS, EXT4, EXT3, EXT2, HFS+ in Journal, and HFS+ in non-journal file system.

With this in mind, if you intend to apply this update, save and unzip the downloadable archive on your desktop, establish a wired connection between the router and the computer, and back up all settings apart from the default values as you will need to re-enter them manually after upgrade.

Now, log into the R7500 dashboard, go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade, click browse, navigate and select the newly-extracted .img file, and allow the device to perform the upgrade.

This being told, download NETGEAR R7500 Router Firmware 1.0.0.68, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the update, and enjoy your newly-improved wireless unit.
