The newly released firmware package removes the SNMP module to prevent security risk

Just now, NETGEAR has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for its R6100 wireless router, namely version 1.0.0.52, which only removes the SNMP module in order to prevent any security risk, as the module wasn’t supported after all.

However, the device still encounters some known issues with the Windows Media Player where the DLNA client might take longer to receive a list from the USB drive attached to the R6100, as well as with the traffic volume control, which isn’t always so accurate.

With this told, if you intend to upgrade to this release, first make sure to connect the router to the computer using an Ethernet cable (wired connection).

Generally, wireless technology tends to randomly disconnect for a short amount of time, which might corrupt the firmware file while uploading. Also, do write down the current configuration as the update process will set the default values.

If all is ok, save and extract the downloadable archive, log into the router’s administration page, go to Advanced > Administration >Firmware Upgrade, hit the “Browse” button, and navigate and select the “R6100-V1.0.0.52.img” file.

Now, just click the “Upload” button, and patiently wait for the new firmware to be transferred and applied to the router. Also, do not interrupt this process since an update failure can cause serious device malfunctions.

That being said, download NETGEAR R6100 Router Firmware 1.0.0.52, take into account all aforementioned aspects, apply the package, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
