Today, Microsoft has rolled out the January 2015 firmware and drivers pack developed for its Surface Pro, Pro 2, and Pro 3 tablets, which updates the Surface Pro UEFI version and includes various other changes.

If you intend to upgrade to this release, you should know that when this task is let to be performed automatically via the Windows Update service, it might take a while until your device receives this package.

Microsoft delivers these updates in stages, thus not all Surface Pro owners will get the new January 2015 package at the same time. However, if you want to benefit from it now, you can do that by manually downloading and installing it on your tablet.

Microsoft Surface Pro This package is suitable for both 32- and 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows 8 and 8.1 operating systems, and it only upgrades the Surface Pro UEFI version to 1.7.50, improving the overall security level once more.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 The Surface Pro 2 models benefit from a zip package that contains several driver versions (as listed in the description page) that are compatible only with Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system, either bit architecture.

As for the changes, Pro 2 tablets receive a new Surface Pro UEFI version (2.05.0150) that also improves the device’s system security, and enhances PXE boot when using the unit’s 1 Gigabit Surface Ethernet Adapter.

In addition to that, the January 2015 update adds Intel HD Graphics driver 10.18.14.4029 which significantly improves display stability and performance, the user experience when using Miracast adapters, and DisplayPort monitors compatibility.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Just like the previous one, this tablet’s update package is also suitable for Windows 8.1 OSes and includes Intel’s new 10.18.14.4029 HD Graphics driver which comes with the same changes and improvements.

However, Microsoft’s team had to update the Surface Pro UEFI version to 3.11.450.0 as well, so that the new HD Graphics driver could be used at its best.

Moreover, developers have also managed to resolve a connectivity issue when Hyper-V was enabled, and they now allow owners to control the 2.4 / 5 GHz band preference through a new feature, all thanks to the 15.68.3073.151 Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth driver.

Last but not least, the Pro 3 models get a 2.0.1179.0 Home Button driver to improve compatibility with Surface Hub app, as well as a 1.31.35.7 Docking Station Audio Device driver in order to make sound available when no speaker is connected to the station.

Therefore, if you consider enjoying the aforementioned improvements, then save the appropriate update package for your tablet model from the links below, carefully apply it, and constantly check our website in order to stay “updated one minute ago.”
