The new updates improve overall performance and stability

Leica has just rolled out new firmware packages targeted at two of its digital cameras, namely version 2.0.1.7 and 1.202 compatible with M (Typ 240) and M-E devices, respectively.

Since no changelog is available whatsoever, I can only assume that these two versions will improve the devices' overall performance and stability. However, you should upgrade your camera to these releases in order to find out for yourself what the changes really are.

To do so, first check your currently installed firmware version and make sure it isn’t either newer or matching this release, and only afterwards save the downloadable package (extract it if necessary).

Assuming that your camera’s software can be updated, format a compatible memory card using the Leica device, transfer the firmware file onto the card’s root folder, and insert it into the camera’s slot.

Now, simply turn on your camera into update mode, and allow the device to perform the installation. Bear in mind that if the upgrade stops for any reason, this may lead to serious device malfunctions and could even render the camera unusable.

Last but not least, upon completion, turn the Leica unit off (if not performed automatically), remove and format the memory card, and power it back on in order to check the current software version powering your device to ensure the installation has been successful.

In other words, download Leica M (Typ 240) Camera Firmware 2.0.1.7 or download Leica M-E Camera Firmware 1.202, carefully apply the new update, and find out what Leica has fixed or improved in these releases.
