Intel has just released a Windows XP-compatible update targeted only at its 4th generation Core CPUs that benefit from a HD Graphics chipset, namely version 6.14.10.5449, which include a huge number of fixes regarding flickering, corruptions, and more.

However, bear in mind that Intel’s new version is only compatible with its 4th-Gen Core processors with embedded graphics designs (traditional ones are not supported).

In terms of changes, this package resolves problems such as the system shutting down after some idle time, the incorrect initialization of the driver, and the CAT error displayed when processing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F8 key for panel scaling.

Moreover, the 75 Hz refresh rate can be applied with no problems, the 720x400 resolution is now available within the CUI, and high-definition videos can be played via PowerDVD without causing the display to blank out.

If applied, build 5449 will also fix compatibility issues with subtitles and HW acceleration on 10, frame drops and image overlapping, flickering in 3D pipes screensaver (only on PDVD dual-display), as well as GLSL demo shuttering.

Last but not least, Intel’s team has managed to improve Glaze 3.1 playback rendering on dual display configuration, lower lag when toggling between fullscreen and REF modes, and implement several other changes that you can view via the description page.

That being said, download Intel HD Graphics Driver 6.14.10.5441 for XP, extract the package, run the setup file, and follow all instructions for a complete upgrade. Also, don’t forget to perform a system reboot in order to allow all changes to take effect.
