Unless Sony suddenly decides its back catalog is free

Most people believe console emulation is a thing of the past when consoles dominated the market in droves while PC gamers struggled between RTS and highly competitive FPS games like CS:GO, while the large console family enjoyed AAA titles like Halo series, Gears of War and God of War.

However, those times came to a sharp end when the petition for PC porting Dark Souls has been taken into consideration by Sony. Although not a very fortunate port, as controls were clunky and a controller was almost mandatory, Dark Souls was running on PCs as any other game and offered even more profits to Sony beyond the console market. The success of Dark Souls has prompted the company to bring each new game onwards from From Software to PCs to influencing an entire industry.

Still, there are many studios that remain reluctant to bring their titles to PCs and emulators are there to do that. Unfortunately, they're lagging behind a lot, and while Sony is promising it'll have its PS1, 2 and 3 games streamed, people still wonder if it'll be for a fee or not.

If the fee is still involved, then nothing will stop nostalgia from taking over gamers to simply develop emulators powerful enough to bring last-gen games to modern PCs. And as PC hardware gets more and more powerful with up to 128GB of DRAM and 12GB of VRAM, it won't be too far until games like Red Dead Redemption and Heavy Rain see the light of day on a future PC OS.

Until then, let's delight ourselves with some Sonic The Hedgehog and Dragon Ball Raging Blast emulated on PC.
