VIA Technologies adds Windows 8 support to its high-definition audio driver package, along with XP, Vista and Windows 7, for both 32-bit and 64-bit architecture.
Although it comes as WHQL-Certified, the driver does not offer the certification for all supported chipsets:
“This driver supports and has WHQL for the following HD audio chips ONLY: VT1705, VT1802P, VT1819S, VT1708S and VT2021.”
VIA’s Drivers and Support Packages download page provides a list with all the supported chips for which the bits are available:
“VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1702S, VT1705, VT1708B, VT1708S, VT1716S, VT1718S, VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1802P, VT1819S, VT2021.”
We encourage users who own motherboards that include one of the above chipsets to download and install the latest high-definition audio driver.
