Garmin has recently released a new beta firmware for its Fenix, D2 and Tactics GPS watches. Version 4.01 is said to be reliable, but it has not yet been published for production and it should be used at your own risk.

What this update brings is a new ability to determine speed, distance, cadence, and steps in Indoor mode (when no Foot Pod is present), a “Ski-Snowboard” profile, and support for Interval Workouts and for workouts loaded from Garmin Connect.

Also, this update adds support for Smart Notifications. Note that the ANCS (Apple Notification Center Service) feature requires an Apple iPhone equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology and iOS 7 or later.

The installation requires that you download the Garmin Fenix/D2/Tactics GPS Watch Firmware 4.01 Beta and run it after you plug your watch into your PC. The setup wizard will take it from there and will guide you through the installation process.

If you notice any bugs or issues, Garmin recommends you to report them to [email protected].
