Pioneer has recently released firmware version 1.06 for its XDJ-R1 DJ system. This update comes with an impressive changelog.

First fix on the list is for the issue where beat SYNC did not work on the first beat as users would expect. Other problems such as MP3 files analyzed with rekordbox that may not be played, or freezes that may occur when a HOT CUE is called, also get resolved with this version.

The update procedure requires a USB stick formatted in FAT or FAT32. Download the firmware at the link below and copy the contents of the archive to the root folder of the flash drive.

Disconnect all the devices plugged in your XDJ-R1 and remove all CDs. Turn on the device while pressing the “Shift” and “USB” buttons from the left deck. The message “Download” should be displayed on the screen.

Now it's time to insert the USB stick into its slot and start the update. The screen will display both the current firmware version and the one you are updating to. There will be a progress bar on the screen as well.

After about six minutes, the process should be completed and a message stating this should appear on the display. Turn off the DJ system and remove the USB stick. Power it back on and check the firmware version.

Below is the link to the new firmware, as well as the full release notes. Download, install, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
