Western Digital has just unveiled a new firmware package targeted at the My Passport Wireless storage, namely version 1.02.15, which resolves the problems with the media server that wouldn’t index newly added content.

In addition to that, version 1.02.15 updates the user interface for wireless settings, as well as dialogs for switching Wi-Fi network modes, and changes the behavior of the Quick Scan option that now performs a complete disk scan and repair.

If the present release is applied, users will now be able to switch to a remembered network without any issues, certain user interface text strings and alerts have been improved and will work properly, and no problems will be encountered when connecting to a non-secure router.

Moreover, the drive will now spin down if connected to a protected network, and the web UI will not freeze anymore even if the SD card is ejected during transfer. Also, the battery’s low level won’t affect the wireless speed.

When it comes to installing this release, just save and unzip the downloadable archive, log into the device’s dashboard UI, go to Firmware > Manual Update, and click on the “Update From File” button.

Now navigate and select the newly extracted “MyPassportWireless_1.02.15.bin” file, click “Ok” to agree with the installation, and allow the unit to perform the upgrade. Do not interrupt this process or rename the .bin file as this will crash the update and can also cause serious device malfunctions.

In other words, to benefit from all the above-described changes, download WD My Passport Wireless Storage Firmware 1.02.15, take into account all aforementioned steps, and upgrade the firmware to the latest version.
