14 DAY TRIAL // Canon has just announced the availability of new firmware updates targeted at EOS C300 and C500 digital cameras, which simplify the fine-tuning process for White Balance preset and bring a series of other improvements.
Specifically speaking, for all EOS units, the new versions also include compatibility with exFAT CF cards larger than 128 GB that improve the devices’ response time required for accessing the card before capturing anything.
As for the EOS C500 devices alone, their update adds support for BT.2020 color gamut (official 4K broadcasting standard) to the 3G-SDI and MON output terminals.
In order to be clear about the versions, Canon has provided firmware 1.0.6.1.00 developed for EOS C500 and C500 PL units, as well as version 1.1.3.1.00 for EOS C300 and C300 PL devices.
Moreover, the producer has also outed software version 2.1.3.1.00, which is only compatible with its EOS C300 cameras that benefit from a Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DAF) feature upgrade. Do not apply this particular release on units that don’t have a DAF improvement.
When it comes to the upgrade process, first make sure you download and extract the proper package for your camera, copy the .FIM file onto an empty SD card (must be initialized using the camera), and insert it into the EOS unit.
Now, go to Menu > Other Functions > Firmware, choose “Set,” and follow the on-screen instructions for a complete upgrade. Upon completion, just select “Ok” at the “Firmware Updated” message, close the camera, and remove the memory card.
