Buffalo has outed a new firmware version for some of its NAS devices, namely the 2.40 package, which brings a huge number of fixes and new features, and it’s compatible with both Windows and MAC platforms.

The newly released version is targeted at the TeraStation 5200, 5400, 5600, 5800, and 5400 rackmount network-attached storages (NASes). In addition, it supports all of Microsoft’s Windows and Intel MAC OS X 10.4 or later OSes.

Due to the large number of changes made in this release, which you can also view through the download page of each of the compatible devices, I will only highlight the method that you must follow to update your device.

To install the new version on an Windows OS, configure the TeraStation device and a computer to run on the same network subnet mask (the first 3 numbers of the IP are identical, and the last ones are different), and exit all applications, as well as any firewall software.

Now, open “TSUpdater.exe” located within the downloadable file, wait for devices to be detected, and afterwards select the one you want to update. Click “Update,” type your password, and then choose “OK.”

At this point, the firmware file will be transferred to the TeraStation NAS, and then the upgrade process will start. When it finishes, a message will be displayed on the screen, and that’s all.

As for the MAC OS, simply extract the downloaded file, run “update,” and refer to the on-screen instructions – it’s quite simple.

That being said, follow one of the links below depending on your OS, and from the list, choose the one that best describes your NAS device, and view all the changes made in this release.
