Samsung Galaxy Y developers have reason to rejoice with the release of Broadcom’s EGL drivers. The BCM2763 VideoCore IV GPU can now show its true potential with upcoming custom ROMs and kernels.

Three and a half months ago, arbylaw, an important member in the XDA developers community, requested proprietary drivers from Broadcom in order to improve the performance of Samsung Galaxy Y’s GPU.

The driver binaries were finally released and developers have been working since on various ROMs that make full use of the GPU.

The Samsung Galaxy Y is a very popular phone all across the globe. Given its price tag of only $125 (€95) and its specifications, it is understandable that it caught the attention of many.

Below is the link to the EGL binary from a test build, along with a patch to frameworks base. These files are meant to help ROM developers, so we recommend using them with caution. Softpedia cannot be held responsible for system malfunctions.
