Just now, BlackMagic has announced the availability of a new firmware update utility targeted at all of its cameras, namely version 2.1, but only implements changes for the Cinema, Pocket Cinema, URSA (EF, PL, HDMI, and Broadcast models) cameras.

Specifically speaking, while all aforementioned devices benefit from a new camera setup software, the URSA models also receive an improved media formatting performance.

In addition to that, the Cinema and Pocket Cinema cameras get support for more frame guide options, their peaking state is remembered even after a power cycle, and holding their “Menu” button will automatically go to settings (bypassing Dashboard).

Besides these changes, Blackmagic’s Pocket Cinema units also receive Japanese and Chinese language menu support, while its Cinema models will be able to make use of lossless compressed RAW file formats.

As for compatibility, the producer has provided two downloadable packages: one suitable for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks and later platforms, and one supporting the 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8 operating systems.

Therefore, it order to install this release, first of all run “Uninstall Camera Utility,” download and extract the appropriate archive for your computer’s OS, navigate and run the available setup file, and follow all instructions displayed on-screen for a complete upgrade.

That being said, download BlackMagic Camera Firmware Update Utility 2.1, apply it on your system, and upgrade your camera in order to benefit from these new improvements.
