Today, Blackmagic Design has announced the availability of its 2.0 firmware update utility compatible with all its camera models, which improves performance and fixes various issues for all devices except for its Production Camera 4K unit.

Specifically speaking, Blackmagic’s Broadcast, HDMI, PL, and EF URSA camera models will now benefit from support for Apple ProRes 444 recording in both 4K and HD, and its Studio Camera 4K device receives performance improvements for optical fiber output.

In addition to that, while the Cinema Camera EF and MFT units get general performance enhancements and improvements, the Pocket Cinema Camera won’t drop any frames during ProRes LT or Proxy recording.

Last but not least, the issue encountered by the producer’s Studio Camera HD product where this device wouldn’t remember overlays settings after performing a reboot cycle has also been resolved.

When it comes to compatible operating systems, as always, Blackmagic Design has provided its users with two downloadable archives: one supporting Microsoft’s 64-bit variants of Windows 7 and 8 OSes, and the other targeted at Mac OS X 10.9 and later platforms.

As for some recommendations, the producer highlights that it would be best if your current camera utility were uninstalled prior to applying version 2.0. Also, bear in mind that Cinema Camera EF or MFT might experience slight LCD screen flickering – this behavior is normal.

With this in mind, download BlackMagic Camera Firmware Update Utility 2.0, apply it on your computer, upgrade your imaging unit, and check our website as often as possible to be aware when a newer version is available.
