Today, BlackMagic Design has rolled out the 1.9.8 camera firmware update utility developed for all BlackMagic cameras, which adds MFT active zoom lenses support to the Studio Camera HD and Studio Camera 4K imaging devices.

Even though no changes are made for the other cameras, namely Production Camera 4K, Cinema Camera, Pocket Cinema Camera, and URSA devices, the present release can also be used along with these units if you want to have the latest version installed.

To do so, save and extract the appropriate downloadable archive on your desktop, run the “Uninstall Camera Utility” before initiating the upgrade, and also make sure the camera is connected to a stable power source.

Bear in mind that the producer has provided two downloadable packages, one compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 or later platforms, and the other targeted at the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8 operating systems.

With this in mind, run the available setup from the newly created folder, and follow the on-screen instructions for a complete and successful upgrade.

As for some recommendations, you should know that after updating the Cinema Camera EF or MFT units, the LCD display might flicker. This behavior is normal and will fade out after a few minutes.

That being said, download BlackMagic Camera Firmware Update Utility 1.9.8 for the proper OS and device model, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and apply the present release in order to stay “updated one minute ago.”
