AsusWrt-Merlin, well known for its custom software releases, has made available firmware version 378.50 beta 1 compatible with some of ASUS’s routers, which includes a huge number of improvements, fixes and new features.

Before highlighting any changes, I should be clear about the supported devices. This firmware can be applied on all models of ASUS’s RT-AC56, -AC66, -AC68, -AC87, -N16, and -N66 routers.

Moving forward, this present release merges with ASUS’s 378.3913 GPL code that adds Trend Micro DPI engine to RT-AC68 devices, updates the same engine for RT-AC87 router models, and adds various Dual WAN and 3G/4G improvements.

In addition to that, version 378.50 beta 1 updates OpenSSL and vsftpd to 1.0.0p and 3.0.2, respectively, adds a new feature that allows using custom scripts and config files (disabled by default), and fixes various problems regarding OpenVPN client and server.

Moreover, SSHD port forwarding can be enabled or disabled, JFFS2 partition is enabled by default, and Local IP in an IPv6 firewall rule can be left empty. Also, to view the full changelog, as well as some recommendations, please click the “Release Notes” button below.

When it comes to installation, this version can be applied like any other official firmware provided by ASUS; just log into your router’s administration page, and initiate the process from the Firmware Upgrade section.

That being said, download AsusWrt-Merlin Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.50 Beta 1 for your specific router model, carefully apply it on your device, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about.
