Amazon has outed new firmware packages developed for both generations of its Kindle Paperwhite units, namely version 5.4.4 and 5.4.3 compatible with the 1st and 2nd-Gen e-Readers, respectively, which include several new features that should improve the devices’ overall usability.

Specifically speaking, the first Paperwhite unit gets support for Kindle FreeTime that lets users create custom profiles for children, benefits from access to the Goodreads community, and is now able to organize content in custom categories through the new Cloud Collections feature.

In addition to that, the e-Reader has now a Page Flip option available and enhanced bookmarks, highlights, and notes.

Moreover, its newly added Smart Lookup feature provides you with various information when you search for a word, and the device will automatically include these words into the Vocabulary Builder as well.

When it comes to the 2nd-Generation Paperwhite, its firmware improves the PDF user experience, adds the ability to access the Notes section from the reading menu, and, just like for the other unit, includes support for the Cloud Collections feature.

Through its related update, Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite device also gets an option that allows the user to cancel a book purchase from within the sample, by tapping “Cancel” before the book has completely downloaded.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your Amazon e-Reader depending on which device you own, get the proper firmware, apply it, and enjoy your newly update Kindle.
