Just now, Amazon has rolled out software update 5.6.1 compatible with Kindle Voyage and Kindle Paperwhite 2nd generation e-Readers, which adds support for Kindle FreeTime Unlimited, Family Library, and others.
To come clear about the new additions, Family Library support allows two users to share books by linking their Amazon accounts, while Kindle FreeTime Unlimited, which is an optional monthly subscription, provides several books for 3- to 8-year-old children.
Moving forwards, the present release gives you the ability to explore the bones of a book, browse images, and filter by Notable Clips, and helps English beginners and kids by displaying inline definitions of difficult words thanks to the new Word Wise feature.
In addition to that, Amazon’s 5.6.1 firmware adds Deeper Goodreads integration that makes it easier and faster to access your reading status, and also adds the possibility to preview and/or purchase books while still in Goodreads.
When it comes to installing this update, first go to Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Device Info and make sure the currently installed version isn’t either newer or matching this release, and if all is ok, save the downloadable .bin file.
Now, transfer the package to the Kindle’s internal storage (root directory), go to Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Update Your Kindle, select “Ok” at the next dialog, and allow the device to do its job.
Upon completion, the “Your Kindle Is Updating” message won’t be displayed anymore, and the device will automatically reboot.
That being said, download Amazon Kindle Voyage Firmware 5.6.1 or download Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Generation Firmware 5.6.1, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and enjoy your newly-improved e-Reader.
