Today, Amazon has rolled out new firmware packages targeted at 3 of its Kindle eReaders, namely version 5.6.1.0.4 developed for Kindle 7th Gen and Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Gen units, as well as update 5.6.1.0.3 compatible with the Kindle Voyage devices.

When it comes to changes, Amazon only highlights that these new releases include general improvements and bug fixes. Thus, the only way to find out what the changes really are is to apply this latest version on your device.

However, you should first know what firmware version is currently running on your Kindle. For that, go to Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Device Info, and you should be able to read it from there.

Now, if the device’s firmware isn’t either newer or matching this release, save the appropriate downloadable package on your computer, connect your Kindle to it, and transfer the .bin file to the root folder of your Kindle’s internal storage.

Once sent, remove the USB cable, go to Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Update Your Kindle, and tap “Ok” to initiate the installation. If something wasn’t done right, this option will be grayed out.

While upgrading, the device will show a “Your Kindle Is Updating” message on its display, and then reboot once completed. Still, make sure you don’t interrupt this process in any way so that no malfunctions are encountered afterwards.

With this in mind, from the links below, follow the one best describing your device model, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and constantly check our website to be the first to find out when a newer version is available for your Kindle.
