The new update fixes Windows Media Player compatible issues

ASUS has just rolled out a new firmware package developed for its RT-AC87R and RT-AC87U router models, namely version 3.0.0.4.378.5134, which fixes some Windows Media Player compatible issue in Media Server, as well as the WAN Status LED problem.

Therefore, if these bugs are bothering you, save and unzip the appropriate archive for your device model, and establish a wired connection between your router and the computer using an Ethernet cable (updating via wireless isn’t recommended).

Afterwards, log into the router’s administration page (username and password should be required), click on the current firmware version powering your unit, and check if the software build powering your router isn’t either newer or matching the present release.

If all is OK, click on the “Browse” button, navigate and select the newly extracted .trx file, hit “Upload” and allow your RT-AC87 device to do its job. Do not disconnect power/Ethernet cable or turn off any of the devices, as this can cause serious malfunctions.

An important aspect that you should take into account is that pressing and holding the reset button for at least 5 seconds after upgrading firmware is required in order to properly reset the router and avoid any compatibility issues.

That being said, download ASUS RT-AC87 Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.5134 for your appropriate router model, apply it to your device, and constantly check our website to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
