ASUS has just provided the download links for firmware 3.0.0.4.378.4608 developed for its RT-AC87U wireless router model, which fixes AP mode connection issues, resolves guest network disappearing problems, and more.

If we were to take a quick look in the past at ASUS’ previous RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.4376 release, that version fixed CVE-2013-1813 vulnerability, updated OpenSSL library to 1.0.0q, optimized memory usage, resolved various compatibility issues, and added many more changes.

Compared to firmware build 378.436, through this present release, ASUS’s team managed to fix problems encountered by traffic monitor GUI, as well as the reboot issue that caused WAN to disconnect and reconnect back.

When it comes to applying this new update, first of all make sure your router’s currently installed firmware isn’t either newer or matching this release, and only afterwards save and extract the downloadable archive.

If all is ok, establish a wired connection between the RT-AC87U unit and computer (username and password should be required), log into the router’s administration page, and use the newly-extracted .trx file to update your wireless device.

Even though this seems easy, make sure that you don’t disconnect the power or Ethernet cable, or close the web browser as this will cause an update failure which might lead to various problems.

With this in mind, download ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.4608, apply it on your router, and constantly check our website to be informed when a newer version is available.
