Today, AMD has announced the availability of its “Special Edition” driver release, namely Catalyst Omega graphics package 14.12 WHQL, which includes way over 20 new features, performance enhancements, as well as a huge number of bug fixes and improvements.

First of all, you should know that this update is compatible with Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8.1 OSes (both bit variants), and applies display driver 14.501 and CCC version 2014.1112.1033.18936.

Bear in mind that, as the producer highlights, version 14.12 isn’t supported by AMD products running in Apple Boot Camp platforms, and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 to be installed. The good part is that the release already includes .NET 4.5.

When it comes to new features, AMD’s new driver adds support for Virtual Super Resolution (VSR), 5K monitors, Alienware Graphics Amplifier, and OpenCL 2.0.

In addition to that, this package also includes various enhancements and additions for Perfect Picture, Frame Pacing (for Dual Graphics), and AMD CrossFire Frame Pacing, and improves performance over Catalyst 14.9 for several titles.

As for the resolved issues, online YouTube videos won’t crash when watching with hardware acceleration enabled, Quad CrossFire will not experience stuttering or screen tearing anymore, and no HDMI problems will be encountered with compatible TV.
